The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has added to its list of banned items for checked baggage.

In a post on X , the administration said that if passengers have an electric toothbrush or “other items that buzz,” it should be packed in their carry-on-bag if it holds a lithium battery.

These batteries are capable of overheating and can cause thermal runway, which happens when the battery is damaged, overheated, exposed to water, overcharged or improperly packed, according to the administration. The device then begins to overheat, expand, smoke or burn which can lead to fires in the plane’s cabin.

Therefore, the TSA says any product with lithium batteries are required to stay out of the bag and be kept with the passenger in the aircraft cabin.
