The lack of gliding facilities in northern Ontario for the region’s air cadets is causing frustration to continue, and for some, becoming a roadblock to becoming pilots.

The Royal Canadian Air Cadet program is a national organization, and is a program for youth between 12 and 18 years-old. It is meant to provide opportunities for the next generation of pilots, for both military and private sector careers.

Gliding is a much more cost effective program than engine based aircraft, and is a great way to gain comfort with the controls of an aircraft. It is unpowered flight that is towed by a power plane to gain adequate height and speed for takeoff.

However, there are currently no facilities for air cadets located in northern Ontario.
