CONCORDIA, Kan. (KSNW) - Two Kansas children are in critical condition due to burns they suffered while lighting a bonfire.

Concordia police say it happened Saturday, shortly before 10 p.m. in the 400 block of West 5th Ave./Kansas Highway 9. The department says officers in the area heard a loud noise followed by screams.

As the officers attempted to locate the source of the screaming, they received a 911 call about two children who had been severely burned. Concordia Fire and EMS responded to the scene.

Both children were transported to the North Central Kansas Medical Center in Concordia before being transferred to burn units at level one trauma hospitals. The ages of the children are not being released to protect their identities.
