LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It was a banner day for Payton Peterson Sunday, who had a career-high 20 kills to lead the Cardinals over Illinois.
The No. 3 Cards beat the Illini 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18) at the KFC Yum! Center.
The Cards hit .288 on 63 kills, 18 blocks and five aces. Sophomore Peterson also had 11 digs and an ace. Outside hitter Chloe Chicoine had a season-high 17 kills, 11 digs, one block and two assists; this while surviving 10 service errors.
Illinois (2-2) hit .201 as a team and had 50 kills, 20 blocks and 8 aces.
Louisville hits the road to play in Wednesday night’s Shriners Children’s Showdown at the Net. The Cards will join Kentucky in the event, but the two rivals aren’t playing one another. Louisville will play the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m
