BISMARCK — Three North Dakota schools, including one in Cass County, have been designated as "Blue Ribbon Schools" for exemplary academic work by their students, teachers and administrators.

The distinction goes to Northern Cass Public School in Hunter, northwest of Fargo; Schroeder Middle School in Grand Forks; and Burlington-Des Lacs Elementary School, northwest of Minot, according to a release from State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler.

The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction nominated the schools for Blue Ribbon School honors, which are usually given by the U.S. Department of Education, the release said.

Since its inception in 1982, the Blue Ribbon program has been jointly administered by the federal agency and state education departments.
