OMAHA, Neb. —

The start of phase one repairs on a sinkhole in downtown Omaha near 16th and Farnam Streets will begin Monday.

During the repairs, part of 17th Street and the alley between 16th and 17th streets will be closed.

OPPD is expected to repair and construct a new duct line. The current damaged duct line is on top of a broken city sewer. Officials say continued rainfall and erosion have created unstable working conditions, exposing workers to unnecessary hazards. The line is expected to be completed by November.

Following the completion of the new duct line, Omaha Public Works will fix the sewer, remove debris, and fill and repave the sinkhole.

The complete sinkhole restoration project is expected to take 15 weeks, barring any weather or unexpected circumstances.
