Gas prices in Vancouver have jumped dramatically since the end of last week.

Many Vancouver pumps are advertising $1.83 per litre Monday morning. A survey of 427 stations in the Metro Vancouver area found an average price of $1.76 per litre Sunday — up 12.6 cents per litre in the past week.

Experts at GasBuddy.com say a looming refinery shutdown in California is partly to blame.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, says, “Most provinces saw gasoline prices rise over the last week, led by notable increases in British Columbia.”

But he says relief could be on its way.
