Richland County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) K9 Specialist Alan Ware was presented with a painting of his former K9 partner Bumi during a RCSD K9 Team dinner hosted by Chef John Militello, owner of Let's Cook Culinary on Sept 4.

The portrait of Bumi, a striking four-year-old Belgian Malinois, was painted by local artist, and Chef Militello's wife Kris Militello.

Partnered with Officer Ware for two years, K9 Bumi was shot and killed in the line duty on Dec. 23, 2024, while pursuing suspects from a stolen vehicle. Three teenagers were arrested in connection with Bumi's death, and a memorial service was held in January to honor his service.
