As impressive as Alabama football quarterback Ty Simpson was in the Crimson Tide's 73-0 win over Louisiana-Monroe, his backups were effective in putting the ball in the end zone as well. Redshirt sophomore Austin Mack spelled Simpson beginning in the second quarter with a pre-planned series and finished 8 of 10 with a pair of touchdown passes.

But perhaps more intriguing was the career debut of true freshman Keelon Russell, a five-star recruit who could be the future of the program at the game's most important position. Russell completed 4 of 6 passes with a touchdown of his own.
