SAN JOSE, Calif. - A woman riding an electric scooter was killed Monday morning in a San Jose hit-and-run, police said.

Police said officers were called out at 8 a.m. to Santa Clara and Cahill streets by the SAP center to investigate a deadly hit-and-run involving a car and scooter.

The driver of the car that struck her fled the scene, police said, and the woman died at the hospital.

A helmet and black-and-white checkered backpack lay in the street near where she died.

Police closed Santa Clara Street in both directions, from Stockton Avenue to Barack Obama Boulevard. San Jose Traffic
