Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor has entered the race for the 1st Congressional District seat.
The 2026 race is proving to be a crowded field. Nine other Democrats are running, as is incumbent Republican Rep. Rob Wittman, who has held the position since 2007.
The 1st District includes parts of Henrico as well as James City County, York County and Williamsburg.
Earlier this year, Taylor ran for Virginia attorney general, but narrowly lost in the Democratic primary to former Del. Jay Jones .
“Nothing has changed,” Taylor said in an interview. “It is still the same desire. There is still a need to protect the Virginians of the First Congressional District from acts like Rob Wittman voting for this disastrous budget bill.”
Wittman voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill A
