North Jersey residents and even a local police department were left baffled by reports of a loud explosion in the area Sept. 7.
Residents took to social media to ask whether others had heard the noise, reported shortly after 9:15 p.m. in the Pequannock area. One Facebook post compared the sound to a bomb, while a Reddit user did not believe it came from other sources more commonly attributed to loud noises.
"It sounded like an explosion and shook the area," read the Reddit post . "Didn’t sound like fireworks or car accident."
