WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 17-year-old boy is in critical but stable condition after police said a rideshare driver shot him during a dispute Sunday afternoon in Winston-Salem.

Police responded around 1:44 p.m. to the 4900 block of Doris Street, where they found the teen with a gunshot wound, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

The teen was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical but stable condition. Investigators said the incident began when the teen became upset after a rideshare ride was canceled.

Police said he approached the driver in a threatening manner while armed and in response, the driver then fired a gun, hitting the teen.

The Violent Firearms Investigation Team responded to the scene.
