Evergreen Public Schools began offering child care for young students as a strike by classified workers entered its third week Monday.

About 1,400 Evergreen paraeducators, bus drivers, security and maintenance staff went on strike Aug. 26 , which would have been the first day of school.

On Sunday, the school district notified families that school would not resume Monday, but child care services would be offered at nine of its elementary schools.

“The district wanted to help support our families during this very stressful time, so we worked with Right At School to get these child care sites up and running,” district spokesman Craig Birnbach said.
