HOUSTON (KIAH)--- Recently during the 89th second Special Session, House Bill 8 also known as HB 8 gave final passage to restore the 8th grade social studies test and U.S History end of course exam.

The bill will now eliminate the STAAR test and replace it with three shorter assessment exams. Key reforms included: • STAAR Test replaced by 3 shorter tests for the beginning, middle and end-of-year starting in the 2027-2028 school year • Fast results for teacher and parent feedback in 48 hours, raw scores • Limit overtesting • Annual A-F Ratings requiring that " Not Rated" designations be banned • Protects Taxpayers-prohibits lawsuits against public education • Top 5 goal-will refresh cut scores every 5 years placing Texas in top 15 states in 15 years
