FORT WORTH, Texas — Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot and killed Monday in western Fort Worth, officials said.

According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call in the 6500 block of Tomstock Drive. There, they found a man on a staircase who had been shot in his upper body, the department said.

Medical personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead, according to FWPD.

Police said the preliminary investigation determined that a witness and the victim got into a verbal altercation when an unknown suspect shot the victim and left the scene.

FWPD said the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's identity once the next of kin has been notified.
