A long-awaited trial finally got underway Monday in Sarnia involving a Brampton truck driver charged three years ago with attempting to smuggle cocaine and heroin across the Blue Water Bridge.

Charanpreet Singh, then 25, was arrested on April 8, 2022 on the Canadian side of the twin-span bridge connecting Port Huron, Mich., and Point Edward and charged with importing cocaine and possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Similar charges linked to heroin were laid later that year.
