Jasper County deputies arrested a man late Sunday afternoon after he was accused of assaulting and injuring an elderly man. It happened at Fisherman’s Retreat RV Pak on Highway 96 a few miles north of Jasper.

The report said the suspect, 53-year-old Roy Lee Smith had locked the gate so deputies and an ambulance crew couldn’t get in. However, Sheriff Chuck Havard spoke to him on the phone and convinced him to unlock the gate.

The victim was 76-year-old George McDaniel.

Smith was arrested and charged with Injury to an Elderly Person.
