MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis City Council has voted to authorize a lawsuit against a south Minneapolis property owner who has allowed a homeless encampment to remain on his privately owned parking lot, located near East Lake Street and 28th Street South.
In a 6-4 vote during a closed session Monday, with two members absent, the council approved legal action against Hamoudi Sabri after he refused to clear his lot of people experiencing homelessness. City officials had previously ordered Sabri to clean the property by Aug. 25. When he did not comply, the city dispatched crews to remove debris at his expense and has since fined him $9,000.
