Detroit mayor and independent gubernatorial candidate Mike Duggan told CNN that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s non-adversarial approach to President Donald Trump has saved jobs in Michigan.
He did not, however, give Whitmer credit for keeping Detroit off Trump’s list of Democratic cities targeted for law enforcement by National Guard troops.
“Well, there’s no question Michigan is benefiting from the fact that Gov. Whitmer went to (Washington,) D.C.,” Duggan told CNN’s Kate Bolduan on Monday, Sept. 8
“I mean, she saved 5,000 jobs at an Air Force base in Macomb County because she went to see the president . … And I think she’s taken exactly the right approach."
