BAY CITY, MI – The city’s newest commissioner has been sworn in, bringing the governing body to eight members.

Mark T. Zanotti was sworn in as Bay City’s new 5th Ward commissioner at the Monday, Sept. 8, meeting. He was appointed at a special meeting on Aug. 25.

Zanotti’s swearing in means the commission is one member shy of being at capacity with nine members. The lone vacancy now is the city’s 3rd Ward seat, which was vacated when former commissioner Andrea Burney-Obershaw resigned last month .

Zanotti, 72, has served on the city’s board of review and previously on the Bay City Public Schools Board of Education. He takes over for Rachelle Hilliker, who resigned earlier this year .

His term runs through December 2026.
