HOLYOKE, Mass (WWLP) - The National Weather Service confirmed two EF1 tornadoes touched down in Worcester County, specifically in Holden and Paxton.

The process of determining tornadic activity involves the National Weather Service taking pictures, measuring the distance traveled by the tornado, its width, duration on the ground, and the type of damage caused.

Meteorologist Andy Nash from the NWS explained that straight-line winds cause trees to fall in the same direction, whereas a tornado causes trees to fall across each other in a chaotic pattern. This data helps the NWS estimate the wind speed and confirm the presence of a tornado.
