The Eagles have promoted edge rusher Patrick Johnson from their practice squad to the 53-man roster, the team announced on Monday afternoon.

Johnson could shine on Philadelphia’s special teams unit. He will make up for the loss of fullback Ben VanSumeren , who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Eagles’ Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.

VanSumeren is one of the team’s best special teams players and had a role on offense. The Eagles placed him on injured reserve Friday.

During the first four seasons of Johnson’s career (2021-2024), he was a significant contributor for the Eagles’ coverage units.

Johnson has played over 50% of the snaps on special teams each season since getting drafted in 2021. He has amassed 39 career tackles.
