PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WROC) — With the second week of school starting, teachers say they are already noticing differences in their students with the statewide bell-to-bell policy in place.

“It was amazing to see students during lunches be able to talk to one another," said Pittsford Central School District superintendent Michael Pero. "The noise level was loud, which is great because before students were on their phones, texting, playing games and this was more 1 to 1 interaction with students.”

The new bell-to-bell phone policy introduced by Governor Kathy Hochul went into effect this September, requiring students K-12 to keep their phones away. This includes other internet-enabled devices like smartwatches or iPads.
