With new Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr having gotten his first career start out of the way, Irish coach Marcus Freeman believes he's ready for more responsibility.
"We were very intentional (in the season-opener against Miami) about trying to protect the first-time starter early in the game, right?" Freeman said during his weekly press conference Monday. "I was vocal about giving him easy reads, easy throws. Let’s not just tell him to bomb the ball down the field every play, because he’ll do that if we allow him to.
“But he showed he’s ready, he’s capable. ... We have to be able to run the football. But we feel like CJ can execute the entire game plan, the entire playbook. He’s a special player."
Freeman added, however, that the Irish don't plan to forget about their running backs, inc
