TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — The exterior walls are clean now, but a year ago, prosecutors say a late-night act of graffiti at Uncommon Church in Euless crossed the line into a hate crime.

Three Muslim activists face felony charges. One of them, Afsheen Khan, appeared in court on Monday surrounded by dozens of supporters and her attorney.

“It is a case that is placing our First Amendment rights and our sense of justice on trial," DFW community organizer Nidaa Lafi said.

Sources tell WFAA that on March 7, 2024, exterior security cameras at Uncommon Church first captured footage of the accused in the parking lot. Then, the three are allegedly caught on camera spray-painting anti-Israel graffiti that included profanity on a section of a brick wall. Uncommon Church is a non-denominational church
