"All Clear" issued following law enforcement operation in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa — The City of Independence issued an “all clear” following a law enforcement operation Monday afternoon.

According to a statement posted on social media, that means the shelter-in-place order is lifted and area from 9th Ave. SW to 7th Ave. SW and from 5th St. SW to 3rd St. SW is now completely open to all resident and vehicle traffic.

The KWWL crew on the scene saw someone led away in handcuffs, but it's not yet clear why that person was detained.

In that online statement, the City of Independence expressed gratitude to the local and federal agencies involved in the operation and thanked the community for its cooperation. The city also says the matter will now be handled by the U.S. Marshals Service going forward.
