COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A South Carolina trooper hit and injured by a truck this past weekend has been another reminder of the tragedy highway patrol faced just last month .

Alex Bookert, 35, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and endangering emergency services personnel.

Investigators said on Sunday morning, his truck ran off the road into the median—striking Trooper Mitchell Williams Jr. with its mirror. Trooper Williams was conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 77 near mile marker 9.

He’s recovering at home. Bookert has been released on a $2,000 bond. Even though investigators said alcohol was a factor, it’s not stopping troopers from sounding the alarm about a bigger issue.
