ST. LOUIS — A 54-year-old man has been charged with killing his roommate on a street in the Walnut Park East neighborhood.

The man, Marvin Byrd, is accused of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting Saturday of the other man, whose name has not yet been released by authorities.

Police said in a probable cause statement that the two left their shared residence to join a small gathering watching college football.

The defendant became "agitated" with the victim for a "perceived lack of financial contribution" to the household and recreational drug expenses, police said.

Police said Byrd shot the man in the 5700 block of Henner Avenue, put his gun on the ground and sat in his vehicle until officers arrived at about 6:30 p.m. Police said Byrd then fought against office
