Western University likely won’t see a pedestrian scramble at one of its busiest intersections any time soon, but politicians were interested in where they could be used in the future.
Members of the c ity council’s community and protective services committee voted unanimously Monday to have staff proceed with some changes to the intersection of Western and Sarnia roads and Philip Aziz Avenue. But they held off on others as the city plans bus rapid transit (BRT) along the Western Road corridor in the next decade.
The changes city hall wants to make include pedestrian signal head starts, barring right turns on red lights, a longer southbound right-turn lane on Western Road, bike lanes along each corridor and improved sidewalks on Sarnia Road and Philip Aziz Avenue. Western Road will als
