LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. — Louisiana State Police are investigating a trooper-involved shooting that left one person dead in Lafourche Parish on Monday afternoon.
According to State Police, the incident began shortly before 4 p.m. when a Trooper attempted a traffic stop as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. The driver refused to comply, leading to a pursuit that ended on Lake Long Drive in Houma.
At the dead end, a passenger got out of the vehicle with a firearm. That’s when a Trooper discharged his weapon, striking the passenger, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the driver then fled again, leading police on a second pursuit. The chase ended in a crash on Louisiana Highway 1 near Lefort Bypass Road, where the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.
