CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Monday evening, Mayor Vi Lyles announced new measures aimed at improving safety across the city’s transit system, following last month's fatal stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on the Charlotte Area Transit System.

Public safety has become a primary point of contention ahead of Tuesday's primary election, where incumbent Lyles faces four democratic challengers. Here's what they all said they would plan to do.
