The ever-active Philadelphia Eagles have made another trade just one week into the 2025 NFL season.
This time, the reigning Super Bowl champions are adding to their running back room. They sent 2026 fifth- and sixth-round picks to the Jacksonville Jaguars to acquire veteran running back Tank Bigsby, according to multiple reports.
Bigsby, 24, was used sparingly in the Jaguars' Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers. New coach Liam Coen opted to use Travis Etienne (16 carries, 143 yards) as the team's lead back while Bigsby split the remaining snaps with rookies Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen.
But last season, Bigsby was Jacksonville's leading rusher. He logged career-best marks in carries (168), rushing yards (766) and rushing touchdowns (7) while tying Derrick Henry for the league lead in yards after contact per carry (2.8).
The Eagles will hope Bigsby's physicality can make him a weapon behind the league's best offensive line. But where will he fall on the team's depth chart? Here's how Philadelphia's running back depth chart stacks up after their latest trade.
Eagles RB depth chart
Philadelphia's running back depth chart is now four-deep after the acquisition of Bigsby. Below is a look at the projected pecking order within the group.
- Saquon Barkley
- Will Shipley
- Tank Bigsby
- A.J. Dillon
Barkley, who became the NFL's ninth-ever 2,000-yard rusher last season, remains the unquestioned leader of the Eagles' room. That said, the Eagles may look to lessen his workload after he handled 480 total touches during the 2024 regular season and the team's run to Super Bowl 59.
Shipley was initially believed to be the change-of-pace option behind Barkley, and he racked up 26 yards on three carries early in the Eagles' season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. However, the second-year running back suffered a rib injury just before halftime and did not return to the contest.
It isn't clear how long Shipley may be limited or sidelined by that malady, but Bigsby would likely be next in line to receive carries behind Barkley if the Clemson product needs to miss time.
Meanwhile, the veteran Dillon brings size to the backfield (6-0, 247 pounds) but he missed the entire 2024 season with a neck injury. The Eagles may be reluctant to give him a sizeable role because of that, which could explain their decision to trade for Bigsby.
