This week marks National HBCU Week, a time to honor the legacy and contributions of historically Black colleges and universities.

In Louisville, Simmons College of Kentucky is celebrating with a full slate of events.

Simmons College is marking National HBCU Week with worship, panels, and community events, showcasing faith, culture, and education.

The Rev. Dr. Richard Hughes, a graduate, says the celebration comes at a critical time as DEI programs are being rolled back across the nation.

“Here we are in 2025, and we're in the midst of yet another dreadful uncertainty as the DEI initiatives have been rolled back, as job loss is continuing to be experienced as funding for HBCUs — a bit shaky at times, we're in a dreadful uncertainty,” Hughes said.
