NAUGATUCK VALLEY PLANNING REGION, Conn. — Over a year since devastating flooding damaged homes, businesses and took several lives in the Naugatuck Valley , local communities are working to prevent something like that from happening again.
The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments , or NVCOG, has been working on flood prevention plans for years.
"Chronic flooding has been an issue in the valley, really throughout all of Connecticut for a very long time now. It's probably one of the biggest impacts of climate change that we're facing," NVCOG Senior Environmental Planner Christine O’Neill said.
She said they applied for a grant from the state in 2022 to start researching and gathering information on what's behind the flooding in the area. They received the grant in 2023 and then start
