Several HBCU teams played tough out-of-conference competition in Week 2 of the college football season. Here’s how I voted in the BOXTOROW HBCU football media poll after Week 2.
1. Jackson State (1-1): The Tigers lost 38-20 to FBS school Southern Miss on the road Saturday. Running back Travis Terrell had a positive showing, rushing for 80 yards on 10 carries. His success is a positive sign for the team’s depth at the position, as Ahmad Miller was the top tailback with 180 yards rushing in the opener.
2. South Carolina State (1-1): South Carolina State played South Carolina on the road and lost 38-10. The Bulldogs defense had a strong start after they held a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. They gave up 17 points in the next quarter.
