On Sept. 6, beachgoers in New Jersey were subjected to a pretty sad sight.

A dead shark washed up on the shore at the beach in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, near Hildreth Avenue.

As seen in the video shared on Instagram on a DoWildwood page, taken by Eric Simpson, beachgoers can be seen crowding around the dead shark, all recording the wild moment.

Simpson replied under the Instagram post, explaining what happened to the shark.

“It’s my video,” Simpson wrote. “Beach patrol took it away, but we were all surrounding it.”

ABC6 reported that beach officials said “red flags” were up on the beach that morning, indicating there were rough waves, and that is likely how the shark wound up on the shore.

There is no update on how the shark died.
