CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. — Calhoun County leaders passed a resolution Monday night setting the new millage rate for the upcoming year. The biggest change is an 18 mill increase to fund fire services countywide.

County Administrator Richard Hall explained the reason for the increase.

“The millage rate actually determines, you know, what comes on your tax bill. Uh, when we adopted the budget that went into effect July 1, it was based on what we expected the millage to be,” said Hall .

Hall said that for most homeowners, the impact will be small. About 93 percent of owner-occupied homes will see less than a $100 increase this year. A $100,000 home could even pay less. The amount will vary based on the value of the home.
