NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A dangerous intersection where a woman was killed earlier this summer is getting a major safety improvement.
Metro leaders approved new crosswalk protections on Monday afternoon for the Magdeburg Greenway crossing at 3rd Avenue North
Two new stop signs with red flashing lights were added late last week along the busy road where Dot Dobbins was hit and killed in June.
They replaced yellow crosswalk warning signs and lights that were put up after the crash, but NDOT leaders want to go even further.
They asked the Traffic and Parking Commission for permission to construct a new pedestrian hybrid beacon that would replace the stop signs.
“It will stop traffic when there is a pedestrian there who hits the button and wishes to cross,” NDOT engineer Andrew Smith sai
