NORFOLK, Va. — A charge document acquired by 13News Now states Culinary Specialist Seaman Jermiah T. Copeland faces a charge of murdering a fellow sailor on May 29, 2025 — the date Angelina Resendiz was last seen.

A person close to the case provided the document to 13News Now. It also says the initials of the victim in the case Copeland is charged in are A.R.

The U.S. Navy still has not itself named Jermiah Copeland as the sailor who is in pre-trial confinement in connection with the Resendiz case.

Angelina Resendiz was a 21-year-old sailor on the USS James E. Williams when she disappeared in late May. Her body was found on June 9 in a wooded area of the Broad Creek section of Norfolk.
