CREVE COEUR — Summit's Gavin Werner didn't panic Monday afternoon. And that led to a Falcons' boys soccer victory over host Chaminade.

With about 13 minutes to play in a non-league match, Werner was shoved in the back during a scramble in the penalty area. And when no one on the field for Summit stepped up for the penalty kick, Werner took the initiative.

"I take PKs for my club team,'' Werner said afterward. But his low shot Monday was turned away by Chaminade goalkeeper Chase Kendall.

"The keeper made a good stop, but I didn't hit it as well as I would've liked," Werner admitted. "My first thought was 'Oh no,' but when I saw the ball bounce away from him, I knew I still had a chance. I hustled to the loose ball and managed to put it away."
