KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville counselor is gaining statewide recognition for helping people break free from addiction and has just been named Tennessee Counselor of the Year for her advocacy across East Tennessee.

"Transforming lives and helping people thrive is what I do," said Kristen Robinson.

For nearly 20 years, Robinson has shared doses of hope with her clients.

"When somebody recovers, they help spark somebody's else life," she said.

She is a therapist guiding people through one of their toughest battles — addiction.

"The opposite of addiction is community," she said. "Impulsivity and hopelessness are the biggest threats."

The Tennessee Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors recognized Robinson as Counselor of the Year for her work with kids, teens and adults. S
