SHELTON, Conn. — A newly-released report in Shelton is raising safety concerns across the district after data showed hundreds of drivers are still illegally passing stopped school buses, despite the installation of new cameras designed to catch violators.
Frank Scalzo, Shelton’s student transportation director, said nearly 200 drivers have illegally passed buses in just the last two weeks. He called the findings “alarming” and said the behavior puts students lives at risk.
“Before it was just a guess,” Scalzo said. “Now, there’s no guessing, it’s hard facts. Bus drivers might have thought four or five people did it in a day, but now we know the actual numbers.”
