INDIANAPOLIS — The fate of a proposed Google data center in Franklin Township could soon be decided, as opposition on the Indianapolis City-County Council grows ahead of a final vote later this month.

On Monday, councilors voted to “call down” the rezoning petition, setting up a showdown on Sept. 22 that could end the project.

For months, residents have rallied against the proposal, posting signs across Franklin Township and staging protests outside the City-County Building. Some councilors joined the demonstrations, echoing concerns from neighbors about the project’s potential impact on land use, water and power infrastructure.
