The residents at Springs Ranch Memory Care are at different junctures in what spokeswoman Debra Maddox calls their “memory journey.” Some are in the beginning stages of dementia, while others are end-stage, struggling to hold on to what remains of their faculties.
But regardless of their mental status, the sight of a hummingbird or a blue jay can spark comfort, joy or even excitement in the residents, Maddox said.
“It doesn’t matter where they are in their memory journey,” said Maddox. “Our residents can all enjoy birds in their own way.”
Bird-watching is a favorite activity for residents and their families, officials said. The activity can be calming, and it can stimulate the senses, which is essential for people living with memory loss.
