BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Bristol Tennessee City Council will meet Tuesday to begin the process of filling a vacancy left by the resignation of Mayor Mark Hutton.
Hutton submitted his resignation on Sept. 2, creating an opening on the five-member board. Per city charter, the mayor’s resignation resulted in the elevation of the vice mayor, Vince Turner, who is now serving as mayor. The council must now fill the vacant seat for the East District.
According to the city charter, the council has 30 days from Hutton’s resignation to appoint a qualified replacement. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of Bristol and Tennessee for at least one year. They also must not be employed by the city, serve in another government office, be on active militar
