HOBART — Paula Allen sat in the front seat of her car, her gaze fixed ahead as she listened to the officer talk. The bitter December air blew through her open car window — a bleak reminder that tomorrow was Christmas, her husband was being booked into jail, and there she was, listening to the officer relaying his life story and bragging about the size of his male anatomy.

Allen had called police that morning from her Hobart home after her husband broke their Ring camera and left shortly before 8 a.m. in one of their vehicles following a disagreement, a probable cause affidavit in his criminal case shows.
