Kiko weakened into a tropical storm late on Monday, Sept. 8 and continues on a path to pass through the north side of the Hawaiian Islands, bringing the potential of life-threatening surf and rip current conditions with it.

According to the 11 p.m. HST advisory from the National Hurricane Center on Sept. 8, Kiko was located about 245 miles northeast of Hilo, Hawaii and about 375 miles east of Honolulu with maximum sustained winds near 60 mph with higher gusts.
