City Council takes on dumping ordinance: Wichita’s City Council will take up an ordinance to curb illegal dumping . If approved, the ordinance would increase penalties and add a position to help enforce illegal dumping laws. The city said it’s spent more than $1 million cleaning up trash over the last eight years, but it has recovered only $4,000 in fines, since it’s often difficult to prove who’s responsible. The new ordinance would double fines, add cameras at hotspots and give investigators more tools to collect evidence.
