Detroit Lions fans purchase millions of dollars in jerseys, hats and other swag each season, but fake merchandise and other scams are becoming more common, according to a study from ingame.com , which covers legal sports betting.

The study analyzed 550,000 online conversations in the past year for all 32 NFL teams, monitoring "heated debates" about fake or knock-off products.

This past winter, federal officials seized almost $40 million in fake sports gear ahead of the Super Bowl, according to a February news release from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
